Queen - News of the World In 1977, a little band named Queen released the album “News from the World”. While you may not be familiar with the LP, but if you’ve been to any sporting event in the past 20 years, or seen a sports movie, you are likely well acquainted with two cuts: We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. For obvious reasons, movies like The Mighty Ducks and countless sports venues have burned Freddy Mercury’s vocals into our collective conscience.

Because of my dad, I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock. (One of my favourite stations, as I’ve mentioned before, is Classic Rock KZ106 from Chattanooga, Tn.) Unfortunately, because of my experiences with sports and movies, I can’t separate these great rock songs from feats of athletic prowess. I wonder what it’d be like if I could hear them for the first time, unadulterated by experience. Would I like them more? What kind of imagery would I see?

I can’t help but wonder if I do the same thing with the Gospel. When I read or hear the Gospel, it’s so closely tied to my own experiences that I definitely approach it through a certain lens. What if I stopped and thought about what I’m saying and how other people heard it? What if I could step back from my experiences and see the Gospel through the lens I saw it when I first came to know him? How would my conversations with non-christian friends change? How much more respect would I have for what Christ did for me? So many questions! Thankfully, some are rhetorical!
