Rantings of a Pastor/Gamer/Historian/Geek
I didn’t come up with the idea of calling Sunday morning “Super Bowl Sunday”, but I think it’s a great concept. It captures how much energy and passion we should put into every corporate gathering. Paul used lots of sports analogies in his letters. He understood that sports were an integral part of people’s lives, and I think that if he were around today, he’d definitely relate our Christian walk to the most important game in football. In this series of posts, I’ll try to explain what I mean when I say that every Sunday morning should be “Super Bowl Sunday”.
Unlike most professional football players, who may only get the opportunity to play in the “big game” once, we have been given the honor of partnering with God every Sunday to introduce people to Jesus. Now, I’m not saying that Sunday morning is the only place that someone can come to know God, but it’s the only time that LifePoint, as a corporate body, has the chance to reach people who are far from him. With that being said, I’d like for you to play along with me for a minute. Close your eyes. Ok, maybe you should leave your eyes open. With your eyes open, unless you can read digital braille, imagine someone you know that needs Jesus in their lives. Now, imagine that they’ve agreed to come to church with you one time. How do you want that person to be treated when they walk in the door? What kind of atmosphere do you want that person to experience? If you can get into this mindset, then you’re ready to make every Sunday “Super Bowl Sunday”.
Tune in tomorrow as we talk some more about “Super Bowl Sunday”.
