Rantings of a Pastor/Gamer/Historian/Geek
Well, it’s official. The Stovers have entered the late 20th century. That’s right, my wife and I have just jumped on the cell phone bandwagon. I wish I could say that I was just waiting to make sure that the whole cell phone thing was going to stick, but I can’t. The fact is, Jessa and were just scared of getting a cell phone. I know that sounds silly, but there were so many basic questions that we had about them, we felt silly asking people. We didn’t want to seem stupid, so we just ignored the fact that we really needed a better way to communicate with the rest of the world. This whole cell phone business has got me to thinking about how people view the church, and more importantly, God.
What if some of the people we think aren’t interested in God really are, they’re just afraid to ask the questions? We knew that we were really suffering from not having cellular phone service, but we were too afraid to act on it, or to ask anyone. Heck, we even pretended like we didn’t want cell phones. But, that’s why the church exists, to let people know it’s ok to ask the tough questions. Maybe that neighbor that you see taking out their trash every Monday night has questions about your church, but is afraid to ask. What if your hair stylist is really struggling and looking for answers, but is afraid to tell anyone about it? What if we kept our minds open to people’s real needs? Whether we recognize it or not, we all really want to be in Jesus’ “myFaves”.
P.S. This is what my phone looks like:
It’s the Motorola W490. I even had a spare USB cable that fit. 50 points if you can guess what my Ringtone is for James…
