I was surfing the archives of another blog that I used to write at (very sporadically) and found this little poem I thought I’d share. You see, there was a time period in which my cable company messed up our billing statements, and I didn’t have the internet or cable tv. So, like any good geek, I wrote a poem about it. Here goes:

The internet is dead, long live the internet (a poem)

by me:

oh, put on sackcloth and ashes and mourn
for the internet is gone
weep and gnash your teeth over its passing
go down with those who mourn
who are skillfull in mourning

no longer do the cable modem lights twinkle
gone are the sarcastic quips of Dr. House
and the joys of watching the world cup on ESPN

the peaceful sounds of my Battle Rifle
and the cries of my pwned enemies
do not flow from my surround sound any longer

how long must I use other’s connections, oh temptress
how long until I am reunited with my precious broadband
I am weak from weeks without WoW
I am drained from days without Gmail

The internet is dead, long live the internet

I feel like if the prophet Jeremiah were alive and deprived of the internet, this is the kind of stuff you’d find in Lamentations.
