Is it weird that almost every situation reminds me of a song? It doesn’t matter what the particular situation is, everything reminds me of a song. The song that’s going through my head right now? Kenny Rogers The Gambler. No I’m not going through a Texas Hold ‘Em phase, although I like poker, I’m talking about outsourcing. Sorry, sometimes the ADD gets the better of me, let me explain. The chorus of Roger’s opus goes: “You have to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run.” As church leaders we need to know when to hold on to projects, and when to let others take control. Sometimes this means giving up something you enjoy doing, or even something you are good at (maybe even both!) Here’s a recent example: James and I are web designers and developers by prior trade. (We were even partners in a web design firm) So when it comes to building the church website? We outsourced it. Our time is better spent leading people than building websites. Despite the fact that we are good and enjoy doing it. Just because you are a banker by trade, doesn’t mean God has called you to handle the church finances. Just a thought.
